The former station

The former station of Godewaersvelde

Around 1870, a railway is done between Poperinghe (Belgium) and Hazebrouck (France). A international train station is opened in Godewaersvelde. Two people were accomodated there, one for the stationmaster and an other for the Custom's receiver. Every passenger had to be checked by the custom's officer on a mandatory going by "the seat of visit". At this time, smuggling reached his pick and every good going out or in the national territory had to be taxed or was prohibited (matches, tobacco...).

Closed in 1970, the former railway became an hiking track and the station a primary school.
